Doris Bass Head, 82, formerly of Woodard's Care and 386 Davis Street Ext. died Wednesday evening at Britthaven of Goldsboro.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Robbie Dunn and the Rev. James "Jim" Medlin will officiate. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka.
Mrs. Head was born in Wayne County on February 11, 1923, to the late Charlie Bass Sr. and Ava Lane Bass. She was a member of Mount Nelson Baptist Church in Eureka.
She is survived by one daughter, Ada Jean Woodard, and her husband, Donald, of Eureka; three sons, James Russell Head of Eureka, Woody Head and his wife, Sandra, of Pikeville and Kermit Head and his wife, Pat, of Snow Hill; one sister, Alma Rhodes of Fayetteville; four brothers, Will Dortch Bass of Eureka, Emerson Bass and his wife, Carol, of Eureka, the Rev. Pete Bass and his wife, Alma, of Eureka and Mac Bass and his wife, Betty Jo, of Kinston; seven grandchildren, Jeanna Head, Roger Head, Amy W. Cannady, April Millard, Ashley Stilley, Russell Scott Head and Tracie Head; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Head was preceded in death by her husband, C. Russell Head, and one brother, Joe Bass.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine Street, Fremont, and other times at the home of Ada Woodard, 410 Davis Street Ext., Fremont.
