William Jackson "J.W." Neal Sr., 83, of 100 Robin Place, died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be held Friday at 3 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wade Parker officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Neal was born in Vance County and was the son of the late Clarence and Lula Tharrington Neal. He retired from the United States Air Force, having served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He served tours of tours of duty in South Carolina, France, Alabama, Indiana and North Carolina.
Following retirement from the military, Mr. Neal worked in shipping for Nichols and Kings department stores in Goldsboro. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, sports, yard work and farming.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby C. Neal; one son, William J. Neal Jr. of Goldsboro; his daughters, Robin N. Bjorling, and her husband, Shane, of Goldsboro and Judith Neal of Tampa, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kimberly Britt and Kayla Britt of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Neal Haithcock, Frances Neal Gay and Peggy Neal Boyd.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 2 until 3 at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
