Odell Edith "O.E." Barnes died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Eastern Chapel Church. Pastor Timothy Dortch will officiate. Burial will be in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Barnes was the son of the late Thad and Hattie Barnes. He attended Johnston County Public Schools and worked as a cook at Wilber's Barbecue restaurant for many years before retiring due to declining health.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mae Lizzie Barnes; five brothers Jack Barnes, Fate Barnes, Ruffin Barnes, Abraham Barnes and Clyde Barnes; and five sisters, Mertie Speight, Leora Smith, Donnie Harper, Dernell White and Eldora Green.

He is survived by six daughters, Patricia Barnes, Bertha Howell of Goldsboro, Lillie Conner of Aurora, Colo., Helena Barnes of Connecticut, Linda Wolfe (Jason) of Florence, S.C., and Gloria Cribbs of Chadburn; three sons, Odis Barnes of Goldsboro, Roy Barnes of Jacksonville, Fla., and Jerry McDuffie of Whiteville; four sisters-in-law, Lena Wilson, Martha Wilson, Mildred Scott and Alice Scott of Loris, S.C.; two brothers-in-law, Leverne McCray and Roy McCray of Loris, S.C.; three grandsons, Alvin (A.J.) Barnes of Aurora, Colo., Rico Graham, and Odis Robinson of Germany; 26 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces; nephews; relatives and caring friends; one special daughter-in-law, Mary McNair Barnes; and a special adopted son, Joe "Reggae" West of Durham.

The viewing hours will be from 1 until 6 today at McIntyre Funeral Home Chapel and the family will receive friends there from 6 until 7 this evening.
