MAURICE E. LANE
MOUNT OLIVE -- Maurice Edward Lane, 76, of 3549 Emmaus Church Road, in the Indian Springs community, died today, May 24.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Gulledge officiating. Visitation will follow the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence. Committal and burial will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. in Pineview Cemetery near Seven Springs.
Mr. Lane was born in Duplin County on April 13, 1929, the oldest of five sons born to the late John Steele Lane and Mary Carter Lane. He attended the Wayne's Chapel Church of God of Prophecy. He was a retired truck driver, having been employed with Aaron Smith Trucking Company. He was a former carrier for the Goldsboro News-Argus and was a retired carrier for the Raleigh News & Observer.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Magdalene Quinn Lane; four daughters, Fay L. Barwick and husband George, Tina L. Barwick and husband James, and Cathy L. Dobbs, all of Mount Olive, and Nancy L. Henderson and her companion, John Covington, of Dudley; four sons, Ray Lane and wife Fay of Lucama, Jerry Lane and wife Tamara of Wilmington, and Richard Lane and wife, Diana of Pikeville; a former daughter-in-law, Juanita Lane of Sanford; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, George Lane of Surf City, formerly of Dudley, William H. "Bill" Lane of Goldsboro, and Marvin Lane of Garner.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lane was preceded in death by an infant son, Maurice E. "Shorty" Lane, Jr., and a brother, John Monroe Lane, Sr.
The Lane family is being served by Tyndall Funeral Home.
