VERNON CAPPS SR.

Vernon Ray Capps, Sr., 64, of 2216 Rosewood Rd., died Monday.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late C. W. and Eva Fail Capps. Mr. Capps was a member, deacon, and usher at Whitley Pentecostal Holiness Church and was an avid collector of antiques and artifacts. He served his country in the National Guard and retired as manager of the laundry department at Cherry Hospital.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Capps will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Whitley Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Ferrell Hardison and the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Capps is survived by his wife, Rachel Parrish Capps; a son, Vernon Ray Capps Jr. of the home; and a brother, Leamon Capps and wife Mary Alice of Goldsboro.

He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Linda Edwards Capps of Goldsboro, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, brothers- and sister-in-law; and by his companion dog Spotty.

Mr. Capps was preceded in death, in addition to his parents, by a brother, Walter Theron Capps.

Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to Whitley Pentecostal Holiness Church, 188 Whitley Church Road, Princeton, N.C., 27569.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and at the residence at other times.
