JACK AMIRIAN
Jack Amirian, age 51, owner of Amirian's Fine Art and Framing and a long-time supporter of downtown Goldsboro, died Friday at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. Pastor Ralph Painter will officiate. Burial will be on Friday in Tennessee.
Mr. Amirian came to Goldsboro as an airman stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. A medical specialist, he developed his artistic talent and after leaving the military, opened an art gallery and framing business in downtown Goldsboro in 1981. Mr. Amirian specialized in custom framing, Civil War prints and other hard-to-find prints. He also sold his own art.
Mr. Amirian was a leader among local business owners, serving for a time as president of the Downtown Merchants Association. He served on the board of the Downtown Goldsboro Development Corporation from 1984 until 1993 and continued to serve as a sponsor for many DGDC functions.
In January, Mr. Amirian was recognized as a "N.C. Main Street Champion" during the annual North Carolina Main Street Conference in New Bern. He was praised for "his perservance, determination, involvement and solid main street business sense."
He is survived by two sons, Stephen Amirian and Isaac Amirian of California; two daughters, Elizabeth Kellen-barger of California and Helen Amirian of Portland, Oregon; one brother, Partev Amirian of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three sisters, Rebecca Moran of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Ophelia Rither of Hilo, Hawaii, and Armine Young of Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; two grandsons, Michael Amirian and Joshua Amirian of Goldsboro; and a number of nieces and nephews and close friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 until 8:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro and following the funeral service on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
