JOHN MONROE LANE

MOUNT OLIVE -- John Monroe Lane, 73, of the Indian Springs community, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2005, at his home.

He was born January 6, 1932, the son of the late John Steele and Mary Carter Lane. He was a member of and a retired volunteer fireman with Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Dept. and he was a retired building contractor having owned and operated John M. Lane Construction Co. He attended the Cricket Ridge Church.

A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Tyndall Funeral Home, with burial following in Maplewood Cemetery.

Mr. Lane is survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy Coker Lane; a son, John Lane Jr. and wife, Wanda, of Seven Springs; a daughter, Betty Wallace and husband, Kenny, of Mount Olive; four brothers, Maurice Lane of Mount Olive, George Lane of Dudley, William H. Lane of Goldsboro, and Marvin Lane of Raleigh; eight grandchildren, Vincent Best and wife, Pam, Anthony Best, Timothy Best, Roy Wallace, Jason Lane, Crystal Lane and fiancee, Paul Smith, Amber Evans and Kayla Lane; five great-grandchildren, Cody, Bryce, Brittney, Austin, and Savannah; and a special family friend, Mandy Lofton.

He was also the father of the late Jennifer Ann Lane and grandfather of the late John S. Lane.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 until 9 p.m., and will, at other times, be at the home at 3554 Emmaus Church Rd., Mount Olive.
