JOHN POANDL

John Francis Poandl, 76, of 405 Dove Place, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Poandl was born in Somerset County, N.J., and was the son of the late Martin Alois Poandl and Julia Johanna Stelzman Poandl. He had worked as a draftsman with Connie Wessell Company in Goldsboro and was instrumental in the design of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Poandl served in the United States Marine Corps and was an active member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church serving in many areas of ministry. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had served as past Grand Knight. Mr. Poandl served on the Board of Review with the Boy Scouts of America and had volunteered with Special Olympics and with Habitat for Humanity in Wayne County.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Tom Norris, O.S.F.S. presiding. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Poandl is survived by his wife, Dorothy Thomas Poandl; his daughters, Debra Poandl Edick and husband, Donald, of Dudley, Dorene Poandl Worrell and husband, George, of Dudley, and Doris Poandl Smith and husband, Craig, of Goldsboro; his sons, John Poandl and wife, Donna, of Dudley, James Poandl and wife, Lisa, of Dudley and Joseph Poandl and wife, Gina, of Dudley; his brother-in-law, Walter Wieniewski of Plain Field, N.J.; his sister-in-law, Helen Poandl of Middlesex, N.J.; and 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Miller and Mitzi Wieniewski and his brother, Lou Poandl.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church 1000 N. Jefferson Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

A rosary will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with visitation following the service until 9 p.m.
