HERMAN CROOM
AYDEN -- The funeral for Herman G. Croom, 97, was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Farmer Funeral Home. Burial was today at 11 a.m. in Ayden Cemetery.
Mr. Croom died Satur-day at his home.
He was the son of the late Seth and Nemmie Croom and grew up in the Sandy Bottom community in Lenoir County. He moved Greene County in 1933 and became a farmer. He was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Ormondsville Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Croom; one son, Herman Croom Jr. of Pikeville; one daughter, Emily Jones of Maury; one stepdaughter, Janice White of Grifton; one stepson, Gene Edwards of Winterville; one sister, Grace Dunkley of Green Bridge, Va., one brother,, Norris Croom of Deep Run; one half sister, Ann Barnes of Kinston; and one half brother, Seth Croom Jr. of Charlotte; and four grandchildren, five step-grandchildren.
