WALSTONBURG -- Jean Young Mainhart, 78, died Monday following a period of declining health.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. in the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. The Rev. Claire Clyburn will officiate. Interment will be private and will be in the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
A native of Pennsylvania, Mrs. Mainhart was the daughter of the late, Charles F. and Bessie Stewart Young. She had worked with the Greene County Board of Elections and, when her health permitted, was an active member of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. She was a member of Calvary Memorial United Methodist Church, and was active in its Women's Circle for many years. She was also a member of the North Carolina Extension Home Makers Association and had served as state president.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald Dean Mainhart; her children, Jacqueline Eldridge and husband, Gerald of Nantucket, Mass, Charles "Chuck" Mainhart and wife, Trish of Walstonburg and Maetta Lee Kelley of Swansboro; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Home tonight from 7 until 9, and other times at the residence, 1132 Mooretown Road, Walstonburg.
