LAGRANGE -- Mark Hodges "Shorty" Kennedy Sr., 89, of 6220 Washington St., died Tuesday at Britthaven of Goldsboro.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home. The Rev. Ben Sims will officiate. The committal service will be open to family members only and will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Mr. Kennedy was born in Lenoir County to the late Alonza Walter Kennedy and Hannah Hodges Kennedy. He was a retired farmer and was a member of LaGrange United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lucille Hardy Kennedy; four children, Mark Hodges Kennedy Jr. and wife Kathie of LaGrange, Al Kennedy and wife Angie of Mount Olive, Katie Kennedy Mills and husband Lenwood of Knightdale and John Hardy Kennedy of LaGrange; one brother, Kenneth Kennedy of Wilson; one sister, Mary Kennedy Foster of New York; 10 grandchildren, John Mark Kennedy and wife Christian, Joseph Michael Kennedy and wife Danielle, Sara Elizabeth Kennedy, Herbert Edward Rouse III and wife Julie, Amy Rouse Kearney and husband Chad, Justin Walter Kennedy, Leland Parker Kennedy, John Hardy Kennedy Jr., Jennifer Mills and Christopher Mills; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday following the service, and other times they will be at the home.
