JAMES LESTER MARTIN
PRINCETON -- James Lester "Blackie" Martin, 78, of 3060 Richardson Bridge Road, died Thursday evening at Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1926, he was the son of the late John Lewis and Lula Lawhorn Martin, and the husband of Hazel Cox Martin.
He was preceded in death by a brother, the Rev. Royster Martin.
Mr. Martin was a retired farmer and a member of Riverside Free Will Baptist Church, and a member of the St. Patricks Lodge and the Shriners. He was a retired deputy with the Johnston County Sheriff's Department. He had a special love for Bluegrass Music and in recent years his dogs, "Winston and Buster".
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dennis "Buddy" and wife Lynn Martin of Princeton, and Kenneth Martin of Princeton; one daughter, Carolyn and husband, John Hall of Goldsboro; grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Lisa Worley and Matthew Gunn, Lori Worley and DJ Medeiros, Amanda Rachel Martin, Jason Gordon Martin and Kelly Brook Martin; one great-granddaughter, Madison Rachel Gunn.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton. The Reverends W.J. Tyner, Dennis Pollock, and James Corbett officiated. Burial followed in the Princeton Cemetery. The family received friends following the funeral service.
