REBECCA THOMPSON
Rebecca Smith Thompson, 88, died Monday at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was the daughter of the late Albert J. Smith and Cora R. Smith and had lived her entire life in Wayne County before moving to Burlington last year, when she became a resident of Burlington Manor. She was retired from BellSouth, formerly Southern Bell, withr 33 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was predeceased by an infant daughter Alice Rose Thompson; brothers Albert J. Smith Jr. and Alton Smith; and sister, Rosalie S. Rhodes.
Her survivors include two daughters, Barbara T. Hall and her husband, Jim, of Charlotte and Linda T. Weavil and her husband, Bob, of Elon; five grandchildren and their spouses, Don and Michelle Hall, Kent and Cynthia Hall, LisaRose Hall, Andrea Keenan Metts and her husband, Carey, and Michael Keenan; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Luta Bell Lawrence and Walena Kornegay; and one brother, Walton Smith.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at her home church, Pine Forest United Methodist Church in Rosewood, conducted by the Rev. Billy Olsen. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 on Wednesday evening at Seymour Funeral Home.
