MARY ELOISE MCMANUS
MIDLAND -- Mary Eloise Balkcum McManus, 75, of 11810 Hwy. 601, died Thursday at Avante at Concord.
A funeral service will be held today at 3 p.m. at United Love Baptist Church, 11487 Flowes Store Road, in Midland. The Reverends Marvin Tyson and Dr. David Morrow will officiate. Burial will follow at United Love Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Wayne County, Mrs. McManus worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, at the Charlotte Branch for 11 years. She retired in 1992, where she then worked part time until December 2001. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Levittown, Pa., from 1955 until 1969, VFW Auxilliary Post 4059 for 35 years and served as 2nd vice president of Bethel Midland Home Demonstration Club. She was also a Midland Lioness Club "tail twister."
Music was an important part of Eloise's life. She enjoyed entertaining folks with her singing. She sang in the choir in the singing Christmas Tree with the Charlotte Chorale Society for 28 years. She was a charter member of United Love Baptist Church in Midland, where she was a member of the Choir and WMU. Her faith was a very vital part of her life. Her favorite verse was Psalm 121:1-2, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help, my help cometh the Lord." Family and friends meant everything to Eloise. She was loved by all who met her and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Doyle Carey McManus of the home; three daughters, Mary and husband, John Earley of Monroe, Karen McManus Lowery and husband, Mitchell of Stanfield, and Norma McManus of Charlotte; one brother, Vassie and wife Beatrice Balkcum of Goldsboro; and four grandchildren, AIC Matthew C. Earley of USAF, Wendy Earley of Monroe, Joy McManus of the home, and Christopher McManus of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Colon Lemuel and Bessie Mae Wallace Balkcum; one sister, Louise Balkcum; and three brothers, Cleve Carroll Balkcum, James Roland Balkcum, and Edward Newton Balkcum.
A visitation was held Saturday evening at Hartsell Funeral Home, from 6:30 until 8:30.
