JOHN BROOKSHIRE
WARSAW -- John Lenderman Brookshire died Saturday at age 85.
He was born in Wilkes County to William Jay and Annie P. Lenderman Brookshire and moved to Winston-Salem at the age of three.
After serving as a Master Sergeant in the Army Air Corps and then as an engineer for the Winston-Salem Southbound Railroad, he moved to Warsaw in 1997.
He was a volunteer for the Food Bank and a member of Warsaw United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Louise Crews.
Among his survivors are his wife, Helen Thomas: a son, Donald J. Brookshire and wife, Sandy, of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Ondra B. Black of Clinton and Deborah K. Gore and husband, Joe Allen, of Warsaw; six grandchildren, "Scooter" and Kevin Brookshire of W.Va., Alex, Juan and Manuel Eason of Warsaw, and Sandra Renee Eason Nelson and husband, Kirk, of Des Moines, Iowa; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley and Kirsten Nelson of Iowa and Genesis and Haley of Wallace.
Visitation will be tonight from 7 to 9 at the Community Funeral Home in Warsaw.
A funeral service will be held at Warsaw United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
The family will travel Wednesday to Winston-Salem for a 10 a.m. memorial service in the chapel at Gardens of Memory, followed by a graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Warsaw United Methodist Church.
