HORACE C. CROOM
SEVEN SPRINGS -- Horace Campbell Croom Sr., 83, of 4528 Davis Hardy Road, died Monday at his home.
The funeral will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange. The Rev. Mike Dixon will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will be in Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Croom was born in Lenoir County to the late Rufus and Meta Haynes Croom. He retired from the United States Air Force. His military career included service during World War II and earned him a Bronze Star, American Defense Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also retired as a Central Supervisor with Caswell Center. He was a member and former chairman of the State Employees Association and was a member of Sandy Bottom Baptist Church, American Legion Post 504, Veterans of Foreign War Post 9514 and Disabled American Veterans Post 32.
Mr. Croom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene Hardy Croom; four sons, Horace Croom Jr. and wife, Judy, of Kinston, Donald Croom and wife, Cleo, of Swansboro, the Rev. Jimmy Croom and wife, Stephanie, of San Rafael, California, Barry Croom and wife, Debbie, of Dunn; daughter, Rebecca Schaub of Seven Springs; nine grandchildren, Greg Croom and wife, Vickie, Timothy Croom and wife, Jennifer, Melissa Sanderson and husband, Steven, Joseph Croom, Caroline Croom, Rosanna Croom, Kristi Price, Sean Croom and Brian Croom; one great-grandchild, Ainsley Croom.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home. and at other times at the home.
