MARY ALLMAN
Mary Katherine Steele Allman, 81, died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Allman was born to Winfield and Helen Steele on January 17, 1923, in Jefferson County, Ohio. She graduated from the Mount Pleasant, Ohio, High School, attended Cleveland Bible College, Wm. Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa, Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, and Ball State University in Muncie, Ind. She earned the Th. B., B.A. and M.A. academic degrees.
Mary Katherine was married to Wayne C. Allman on July 9, 1946, at Mount Pleasant, Ohio. To this union were born two daughters, Cheryl Ruth on September 20, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., and Marsha Kay on January 14, 1953 in Alva, Okla.
She served as a minister's wife in Tongonoxie, Kan., Alva, Okla, Marshalltown, Iowa, Oskaloosa, Iowa, Richmond, Ind. and Goldsboro, N.C. Being an English major, she taught high school classes at Oskaloosa High, Northeastern High in Wayne County, Indiana; and at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base she taught English classes for Mount Olive College, Wayne Community College, and Saint Leo College. She retired for her teaching career in May, 1993.
She and her husband took a one month retirement trip to the west in the summer of 1994. In 1996 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with members of their family at Pigeon Forge, Tenn.
She was an avid reader, loved to play the piano, travel and play golf. In the earlier pastorates she enjoyed serving as a youth leader and later taught Sunday school and Bethel Bible classes.
She is survived by her husband of Goldsboro, N.C., two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Michael Jackson of LaGrange Park, Ill., and Marsha and Randy McCaulley of Perry, Iowa; six grandchildren; and her sister, Josephine Robson of Mount Pleasant, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at New Hope Friends Church with Bill Garner officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Friends Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at her home.
