DR. ED HOGAN
Dr. Edmond Pascal Hogan, 65, died Monday night at the home of Dr. and Mrs. James Atkins of Goldsboro.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Moffatt Auditorium in the main building at Wayne Community College.
Dr. Hogan was born on April 5, 1939, in Cork City, Ireland, and was the youngest of three children of the late John and Mary Hogan.
He left Ireland in the 1970s and earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology at the University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. He then went to Washington State University, where he received a master's degree in psychology and a doctorate in sociology.
In 1979, Dr. Hogan was hired to teach psychology at Wayne Community College. During his 25-year tenure, he also served as head of the Human Services Department.
While at the college, he offered free counseling services to faculty, staff and the community, and presented information on the psychological needs of the terminally ill and their families to numerous organizations.
In 1995, Dr. Hogan was presented with the George E. Wilson Teaching in Excellence Award.
Dr. Hogan was active in local theater. Among the many productions he starred in were "Tuesdays With Morrie," "A Christmas Carol" and "The Importance of Being Oscar."
His survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Noreen and Joseph Foyle of Dublin, Ireland; a sister-in-law, Kate Hogan of County Cork, Ireland; a nephew and godson, Joseph Foyle of County Louth, Ireland; nephews, Martin Foyle and John Foyle, both of Dublin; nieces, Margaret Foyle McEvoy of County Clare, Ireland; Miriam Foyle Maher of County Dublin, Ireland; and Tracey Hogan and Karen Hogan, both of County Dublin, Ireland; an aunt, Sister MdeLourdes Hogan of Perth, Australia; and friends in Wayne County, Washington, D.C., New York, Prince Edward Island and Ireland.
He was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Enda and Theresa Hogan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Foundation of Wayne Community College and the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home is serving the family.
