TRAVIS NEWTON
PENDLETON -- Rev. Travis Edward Newton, 63, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday.
Rev. Newton was born in Hobbs, N.M. to Rev. Glenn Edwin Newton and the late Esther McCarley Newton. He was an ordained Southern Baptist minister and pastor of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church.
Rev. Newton also served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from Wake Forest University and Master of Divinity from Southeastern Theological Seminary.
Funeral services are Monday 2 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Willie McLawhorn, the Rev. John Pond, and the Rev. Billy Olsen officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Rev. Newton is survived by his father and his wife of 40 years, Carol Mitchell Newton; his daughter, Ella Christina Guinn and husband, Darrell, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and his son, David Travis Newton and wife, Kimberly, and grandson Jason Edwin, all of Wake Forest. He is also survived by his brothers, Charles Newton and wife, Nancy, and Elvin Newton, all of Bakersfield, Calif.; and his mother-in-law, Ella Mitchell, of Rosewood.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro.
