RUBY A. POPE

CLINTON -- Ruby Austin Pope, 88, of 180 Southwood Drive, formerly of 4343 Faison Hwy., died Thursday at Southwood Nursing Center.

The funeral will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill West and the Rev. Graham Elmore officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born in 1916 in Johnston County, Mrs. Pope was the daughter of the late James Thomas and Florence Johnston Austin. She was a member of Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, was church treasurer for many years and served on many committees within the church. She was a homemaker and the widow of Carl Lee Pope.

She is survived by two daughters: Ruby P. Player of Goldsboro and Gracie P. Redman of Lakeland, Fla.; one son; James Carl "J.C." Pope of Clinton; one sister; Elgie A. Peterson of Clinton; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren

The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 at Royal-Hall Funeral Home, and other times at the home of J.C. and Nancy Pope, 506 Pineview Road, Clinton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, 3790 Faison Hwy., Clinton, N.C. 28328.
