SALLIE HOLMES
LEXINGTON -- Sallie Alethe Garris Holmes, 78, died Sunday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Holmes was born in Wayne County and was the daughter of the late Edward Hadley and Polly Williamson Garris. Prior to retirement, she owned and operated Sallie's Salon and was formerly employed by the Davidson County School System.
She is survived by two sons, Edward "Ed" Holmes and Randy Garris Holmes of Lexington; a brother, the Rev. Gerald Garris of Dudley; a sister, Hazel Price of Seven Springs; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church, where she was a member. The Reverends Matthew S. Farabow, Gerald Garris and C.F. McDowell III will officiate. Burial will be in Lexington City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 until 8 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, and other times at the residence on Mountainbrook Drive.
