WALTER CAPPS

MSgt. Walter Everett Capps, U.S. Army (retired) age 82, died July 17, 2004, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill from injuries following an automobile accident.

He was a of native of Wayne County and was the son of the late Joseph Linwood and Etta Letchworth Capps. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the 3482nd Ordinance M.A.M. Co., as well as many duty stations across Europe during his distinguished 23-year military career. He enjoyed doing volunteer work with the Teen Valley Ranch in the North Carolina mountains and was an avid pilot.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Lee Page Capps; daughter, Janet Capps Miller and husband, Doug, of Gold Hill; sisters, Edna Earle Capps Cook and husband, Dexton, of Wilson and Rose Ina Capps McLamb of Goldsboro; 10 nieces and 10 nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie Capps and Guy Capps.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Darrell Saul and the Rev. Tony McLamb will officiate. Entombment, with military honors, will follow in the chapel mausoleum.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh.
