MACK LEWIS

Mathie Coolidge "Mack" Lewis, 79, of 205 Dock Street, died Monday at his home.

A native of Nash County, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Lewis and Della Boykin Lewis. He worked as a salesman with Tom's Snacks and was a member of Heritage Free Will Baptist Church. He was a veteran of United States Army, serving in the First Infantry Division during World War II in the invasion on Normandy, and was a member of the American Legion #184 in Fremont and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Mr. Lewis had a love for music and had performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with Roy Acuff.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Benson Lewis; two sons, Mathie Douglas Lewis of Lowell, Mass., and Lucky Lewis of Fremont; one daughter, Esther L. Coker of Fremont; and two grandchildren, Alton Coker Jr. and Rebecca Coker of Kenly.

A Service of Remembrance will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Heritage Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. A.C. Morgan officiating. The family will greet friends afterward.

Arrangements are with Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
