RUTHIE H. BASS
Ruthie Howell Bass passed away Friday.
Born on Feb. 17, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Hattie Davis Howell of Pikeville. She was a graduate of Pikeville High School, attended East Carolina College and was a retired accountant from the city of Baltimore. She was a charter member of Hazelwood Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Mrs. Bass was an avid fan of college and professional basketball and football.
She is survived by her sons, John Bass and wife Vy of Nashua, N.H., and Michael Bass and wife Marge of Joppa Town, Md.; three sisters, Martha Mumford of Princeton, Mary Crockett of Tampa, Fla., and Daphne Pennel of Charlotte; three grandchildren, David Bass, Christine Stangle and Jackie Bass; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Bass; brother, Clifton Howell of LaGrange; and sister, Cora Roberts of Pikeville.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at Rucks Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery, Baltimore.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to Hospice of Baltimore, 6601 N. Charles St., Baltimore, Md. 21204.
