JOHN R. HOSEA

John Robert Hosea, 81, of Hopewell, Va., died Thursday at John Randolph Medical Center.

He was born in Pikeville and was the son of the late Addison and Alma Bowden Hosea. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Mary Little Hosea, a son, Robert Cameron Hosea, and two brothers, Addison and Ellsworth Hosea.

Mr. Hosea was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in chemical engineering. He served 20 years as a chemist and a chemical engineer for Allied Chemical and retired in 1973. He was then employed in an engineering position with the State Air Pollution Control Board in Richmond and retired from there in 1988. He was a past member of the American Chemical Society and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, a member of the First Baptist Church of Hopewell and the John Edwards Sunday School Class. For many years he was an active amateur radio operator with a call sign of W4PWT. In recent years he was a volunteer for the Red Cross at John Randolph Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Saunders Hosea; one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Allan Bishop of Rockville, Va.; two stepsons, Wilburn Dibling of Roanoke and Ronald Dibling of Raleigh; one stepdaughter, Debra Koontz of Lexington; a sister-in-law, Jane Hosea of Wilmington; and 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at the Hopewell Chapel of JT Morriss and Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be conducted there on Monday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Willie Cromer of First Baptist Church of Hopewell officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
