FREDDIE CARROLL
Freddie Rayford Carroll, 62, died on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Carroll was born in Northampton County to John Willis Carroll and Ricksie Taylor Carroll. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received graduate degrees from East Carolina University. Mr. Carroll enjoyed a long and outstanding career in the North Carolina Public School System. In 1966 he began working for Northampton County Schools as a biology and physics teacher. He was named principal of Rich Square Junior High School in 1971, and in 1978 he transferred to Conway Middle School. In 1982, he moved to Wayne County as the principal of Rosewood High School and later he became the principal of Eastern Wayne High School. Mr. Carroll was named Wayne County Principal of the Year in 1989-1990, and WCEOP Boss of the Year in 1995.
After dedicating 33 years to the field of education, Mr. Carroll retired in June of 1995. Since retiring, he has served as an educational consultant in Johnston and Pitt counties, holding various positions of educational leadership.
Mr. Carroll was a loving husband, father, grandfather and son, brother and uncle. A devoted Christian, he is now enjoying being home with his Master. He and his wife are members of First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. He has been a member of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club since 1982.
The family invites all who were touched by Freddie Carroll to join them in a visitation to celebrate his life from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., with service to follow at 7 p.m., Friday, at First Baptist Church in Goldsboro. A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 12 noon in the Conway Cemetery, Conway, N.C.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 36 years, Beverly Watson Carroll of Goldsboro, two sons, Freddie Christopher Carroll and wife, Kimberly, of Raleigh, N.C., and John Devin Carroll and wife, Melissa, of Raleigh, N.C.; and one grandson, Duke Alexander; his mother, Ricksie Taylor Carroll of Faison's Old Tavern; brother, Clyde Carroll and wife, Terry, of Wilmington, N.C.; sisters, Glenda Roberts and husband, Bobby, of Lake Gaston, Priscilla Dickens of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and Robin Talley of Greenville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Willis Carroll.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Freddie R. Carroll Memorial Scholarship Fund, which will be used to fund a scholarship as a lasting tribute to Freddie's dedication to the education profession.
