MARY SMITH
WALLACE -- Mary Gladys Thigpen Smith, 80, of 209 W. Carr St., died Friday at Cape Fear Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
The funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wallace. Dr. Dennis Bazemore and Dr. Frank Hawkins will conduct the service. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one daughter, Sue Stott and husband, Ron, of Wilmington; one son, Wade Smith and wife, Ruth, of Calypso; three sisters, Effie Griffin of Newport, Annie Boone of Burgaw and Faye Midgett of Sneads Ferry; one granddaughter, Jill Stott Moore and husband, Keith, of Wilmington; two grandsons, Lark Stott and wife, Wallis,
of Wilmington, and Kiley Smith and wife, Cyndy, of Mocksville; three great-grandsons, William Korbin Smith, Brantley Stott Moore and Joseph Larkin Stott, all of whom she called her "heart throbs."
A native of Duplin County, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Roland and Gladys Savage Thigpen. Mrs. Smith co-owned Hallie's Body Shop for more than twenty-five years with her husband, Hallie Smith, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Thigpen, Leon Thigpen and Johnnie Thigpen. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Wallace where she was active in the Keen Agers and a member of the Myrtle Chestnutt Sunday School Class.
Casketbearers will be Joseph Griffin Jr., K.R. Hunter, Allen Boone, Vance Thigpen, Michael Midgett and Robert Johnson.
The family received friends at Padgett Funeral Home on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m.
