KENNETH HORCHLER
MOUNT OLIVE -- Kenneth Elwood Horchler, 55, died Sunday.
He was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Cumberland, Maryland, and was the son of the late Brydon and Mabel Reynolds Horchler. He graduated from Red Oak High School in 1966 and served in the U. S. Coast Guard for 16 years, including active duty in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 11, Goldsboro; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 554, Somerset, Pa.; and the Disabled American Veterans. He was a registered nurse for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Nelms Horchler of the home; seven step-children, Jeffrey Nelms, David Nelms and wife Janet and Elizabeth Johnson and Melissa Nelms of Rocky Mount, Cynthia Rose and husband Chris, and Delores Yenney, all of Whitakers; and Jennifer Wheeler and husband Chad of Erie, Pa.; 12 step grandchildren; brothers, Bill Horchler and friend Anita Kinlaw of Elizabethtown, and Denny Horchler and wife Becky; a sister, Sheri May and husband Phil of Rocky Mount; special friends, Brenda McCafferty of Rocky Mount, Donald and Rose Skinner of Red Oak, and Joe Allweiler of Mount Olive.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home with the Rev. Rucker Burnette, of Red Oak Baptist Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service, and other times at the home of Sheri and Phil May, 3853 N. Old Carriage Road, Rocky Mount.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Home Care and Hospice, 1201-C Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
