CECIL R. SUTTON

Cecil Ray Sutton, 90, of 1398 Hood Swamp Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lenoir County to the late Leslie and Rachel Sutton. He was a retired farmer and was a pioneer in the growing of strawberries. He was a long-time member of Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, where he was active in the Sunday School and served as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and trustee, and as a member of the Mission Board. He was a charter member of the New Hope Fire Department and also was member of the ASC Committee and Farm Bureau.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Woods Grove Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Grady and Dr. Michael B. Hobbs officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Sutton is survived by his wife, Rachel Faircloth Sutton; two daughters, Gaye S. Hobbs and husband, Michael, of Rockingham, Patricia S. Harper of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Connie Teachey Fields and husband, Douglas, Eddie R. Teachey and wife, Sula, James Elmore Jr. and wife, Pamela, and Bradley Sutton Elmore and wife, Jackie; a brother, Donald Sutton and wife, Margaret, of Goldsboro; three stepchildren, Chloe Hedrick, Jeffrey Crawford and Robin Myers, all of Goldsboro; three step-grandchildren, Michael T. Hobbs of Raleigh, Angela Hobbs and Lindsay Wertz of Columbus, Miss.; seven great-grandchildren and ten great great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sutton was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Coker Sutton; six brothers, Russell, Desmond, Norwood, Laurice, Cary and Lionel Sutton; and a sister, Shirley Evans.

Pallbearers will be George Foss, Brantley Coker, David Evans, Billy Sutton, Gary Sutton, Tim Sutton, Ken Sutton and Robert Sutton. Honorary pallbearers will be James Elmore Jr., Bradley Elmore, Matthew Elmore, James Elmore Sr., Paul Douglas Fields and Eddie R. Teachey.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 at Rouse Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Pat Harper, 1408 Hood Swamp Road, Goldsboro.

Memorial donations may be made to Woods Grove P.F.W.B. Church, 4009 Central Heights Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
