RUSSELL BAKER JR.
ROANOKE, Va. -- Russell Carl "Scrubby" Baker Jr., 68, of Roanoke, and a native of Mount Olive, N.C., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Russell Carl Baker Sr. and Mildred Howell Baker, and a brother, Ellis Ray Baker.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Baker, son, Russell Carl Baker III, daughter, Karen Baker Freeman, son-in-law, Lee Freeman, and grandchildren, Levi, Ashleigh, Justin and Russell IV. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory brothers, Kenneth (Tommy) Baker and wife Connie of Wytheville, Va., and Carroll Eugene (Gene) Baker and wife Carolyn of Valrio, Fla.; sister-in-law, Judy Baker of Plymouth, Mass.; brother-in-law, Thomas King and wife Caryn; sister-in-law and husband, Terry and Ken Knight of West Columbia, S.C.; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Oakey's East Chapel, Colverdale Road in Botetourt County at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004, with Rev. Edward Richardson officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel.
