DR. J.T. HAMMONDS JR.
DUNN -- Dr. James Thurman "J.T." Hammond Jr., 56, died while preaching on Sunday morning.
A Bladen County native, he was a graduate of Bladenboro High School, Pembroke State University with a Masters in Education and North Carolina State University with an EdD. He had served as principal for Johnson Christian Academy and an associate pastor of Smithfield First Assembly of God for the past eight years. He was the Christian Education Director for the Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and Camp Director for Crusader Youth Camp for 13 years. He served as pastor of Dublin Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Dublin for eight years and also had served as pastor of Turkey Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Turkey and Emmanuel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna Dixon Hammond; a son, Mark Hammond; daughters, Tara Hammond and Jaime Hammond of the home; a daughter-in-law, Kristin Hammond, and granddaughter, Karaline Hammond, all of Dunn; his parents, James Thurman Hammond Sr. and Lorraine Little Hammond of Bladenboro; a brother, Larry Hammond of Clarkton; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mack and Mildred Dixon of Black Jack.
The funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Smithfield. Burial will be in Stoney Run Pentecostal Free will Baptist Church Cemetery near Dunn.
The family will receive visitors tonight from 7 until 9 at Skinner Funeral Home in Dunn.
