E. RUTLEDGE TALTON
Erma Elizabeth Rutledge Talton, 75, went to be with God on Friday at 7 a.m. with her family by her side.
Born October 16, 1928, in Wayne County to the late James W. and Rossie Millard Lane, she was the wife of the late Buddy T. Rutledge and later married to her loving husband, Gordon E. Talton. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Edmundson; a son, Gilbert D. Rutledge; a brother, Herman Lane; and sister, Margaret Fortner. Known as "Big Momma" to some and "Liz" to others, she considered her devotion as a mother and homemaker her greatest passion and was loved by all. A former employee of J.P. Stevens, she was an active member of Love Memorial Baptist Church where she enjoyed being President of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, preparing devotions and strongly supporting missions. Liz put the Lord first in her life and she served him daily. Her entire life was taking care of her family and friends, and giving advice was her specialty.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Love Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Ferrell Hardison, the Rev. Andy Stovall, and the Rev. Dave Fishman officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son and daughters-in-law, Wilburn T. and Jeannie Rutledge of Goldsboro and Sandy Rutledge of Dudley; daughters and sons-in-law, Bill Edmundson of Dudley, Darlene Williams of Winston Salem and Deannie and Charles Lee of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; a brother, Frank Lane of Dudley; sisters, Jessie Craig and Edna Haire, both of Dudley; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and special and loving friends, Val Whitfield and Peggy Cartwright.
Family members will greet friends today from 3 until 5 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 3549 U.S. Highway 117 Alt., Dudley, N.C. 28333.
We will surely miss her and hold the precious memories of special times shared together with her as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend and "Big Momma."
