Mrs. Patterson

Marsha Jean Mayo of Raleigh and Donzell Bryant Patterson of Durham exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony March 10, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Goldsboro, with Dr. Herbert L. Dickerson officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Jean Parks Whitfield and Lenston Whitfield of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of the late Elijah and Elizabeth Parks of Seven Springs and the late Sylvester and Margaret Mayo of Tarboro.

She is a graduate of Goldsboro High School and North Carolina Central University of Durham with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She is employed as a claim representative with State Farm Insurance.

The groom is the son of Willie Isaiah Patterson and the late Annie Louise Patterson of Durham and the grandson of the late Willie and Ida Johnson Patterson of Durham and the late Robert and Beulah Pratt of Durham.

He graduated from Durham High School and North Carolina Central University of Durham with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology. He is employed as a physician assistant with Duke Medical Center.

The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her brothers, Carroll Carnell Midgette III, Maurice Bernard Mayo Jr., Monty Alexander Midgette and Alvin DeJuan Midgette.

The bride wore a gorgeous ivory classic satin gown by Priscilla of Boston Vineyard Collection. The beautiful notched strapless neckline was adorned with an embellished beaded jeweled center bodice of tulle-covered crystals. A fit and flare bodice with an abundant sweep in the train added a touch of simple elegance.

Her double-layer elbow-length veil was embellished with scattered rhinestones and crystals along the finished edge.

The bride’s clutch bouquet was full of ivory hydrangea, roses, stock and stephanotis with accenting eucalyptus berry.

Marri Mayo Fryar of Hillsborough, sister of the bride, was her matron of honor. Tracey VaShonna Smith of Raleigh, friend of the bride, was her maid of honor.

Bridesmaids were Ciara Qusau’trea Allen of Raleigh, niece of the bride, and friends, Gloria Lewis Williams of Raleigh and Kamia Shamone Taylor of Gaithersburg, Md.

Brooke Elizabeth Fryar of Hillsborough and Morgan Phyllis Midgette of Knightdale, nieces of the bride, were junior bridesmaids.

Erin Nicole Fryar of Hillsborough, Madison Kay Midgette of Knightdale and Khloe Alexandria Midgette of Youngsville, nieces of the bride, were flower girls.

Ronald Willie Patterson of Timberlake was his brother’s best man.

Groomsmen were Andrew Thomas Moss Jr. of Washington, D.C., and Fernando Debreaux of Durham, friends of the groom; Derek Alexander Nunn of Laurel, Md., cousin of the groom; and Thomas Edwards Parks, Jr. of Raleigh, cousin of the bride.

Miles Bryant Patterson of Raleigh, son of the groom, and Ryan Jordan Odom of Durham, nephew of the groom, were junior groomsmen.

Ethan Alexander Midgette of Youngsville, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.

Ushers were Montrale De’o Boykin of Winston-Salem, cousin of the bride, and Mark Cornelius Taylor of Morrisville, Sanchez Raynard Jackson of China Grove and William Herman Wynn of Greensboro, friends of the groom. Maurice Bernard Mayo III and Justin Alexander Mayo of Laurel, Md., nephews of the bride, were junior ushers.

Tremonteo Boykin Crawford of Winston-Salem and Sabrina Boykin Coppedge of High Point, cousins of the bride, directed the wedding.

Register attendants were Catrese Jamia Parks of Greensboro and Margo Maria Boykin of Fayetteville, cousins of the bride, and Kimberlee Shanaed Patterson of Durham and Laronda DeNea Terrell of Mitchellville, Md., nieces of the groom.

A program of wedding music was provided by Lisa Johnson Hayes of Durham, cousin of the groom, and Marri Mayo Fryar, sister of the bride, vocalists; Maurice Bernard Mayo Jr., brother of the bride, vocalist and pianist; and Benjamin Johnson, organist.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at Walnut Creek Country Club. Pamela Parks Green of Suffolk, Va., cousin of the bride, directed the reception. Greeters were Gwendolyn Beth Williamson of Greensboro, LaQuisha McMillan Parks of Raleigh, cousin of the bride, and Laronda DeNea Terrell. Carol Robinson Stevens of Wilson, cousin of the bride and Sharon Denise Sauls of Columbus, Md., godsister of the bride, received the gifts. The cake was cut by the bride’s aunt, Bettie Parks Boykin of Mount Olive, Annette Lofton Vaughter of Virginia Beach, Va., and Vonda Parks Ashford of Goldsboro, cousins of the bride. Hostesses were Aronda Donita Price of Morrisville, friend of the bride, Catrese Jamia Parks, Kimberlee Shenaed Patterson and Margo Maria Boykin.

The couple honeymooned in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and now reside in Raleigh.

Events held before the wedding included a shower at River Run Club House in Raleigh hosted by the bride’s matron and maid of honor and bridesmaids; a shower at Camden Overbrooke Club House in Raleigh hosted by Lynette Hoosier, Jackie Newkirk and Shelby Harvell, close friends of the bride; and a shower hosted by colleagues of the bride.

Fred and Pat Waddell, friends of the bride, hosted the rehearsal dinner at their home in Goldsboro.
