Mayer-Thuemmel
Alanna Stephanie Thuemmel of Chesapeake, Va., and Benjamin Matthew Mayer of Chesapeak, Va., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. at Hickory United Methodist Church in Chesapeake, Va., with Thomas L. Mercer officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dianne Agnes Kendall of Goldsboro and the granddaughter of Ruth Tonkin Kendall and the late Howard John Kendall of Goldsboro.
She is a graduate of Eastern Wayne High School and attended Wayne Community College. She is employed as a manager at a financial institution in Virginia Beach, Va.
The groom is the son of Claude and Margaret Mayer of Chesapeake, Va., and the grandson of the late Claude Mayer, and Clara Mayer of Richmond, Va., and the late Frank and Gloria Lloyd of Richmond, Va.
He graduated from Old Dominion University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He is employed in property management accounting at BECO Asset Management LLC.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her mother.
She wore a flowing chiffon A-line gown with beaded lace on the empire waist and back. She also wore pearls that belonged to her grandmother, Ruth T. Kendall, given to her grandmother by her late husband, Howard J. Kendall after World War II.
Her headpiece was a mid-length matching veil.
The bride carried 12 long stemmed red roses and rosary beads that belonged to her mother.
Shannon Proctor was her sister’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Michelle Nobles and Melinda Desler.
Claude Mayer was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Shane Keller and David Desler.
Ushers were Will Cowling, Adam Cowling and Ryan Upton.
Georgia Grace Proctor, niece of the bride, was flower girl.
Susan Coard directed the wedding. Presiding at the register was Nicky Cowling.
Morgan Nobles was Scripture reader.
A program of wedding music was provided by Betty Winslow, pianist; Jay Whitehead, vocalist; and Betty Winslow, organist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the church fellowship hall. A three-tiered cake with an “M” topper was served.
After their wedding trip to Maggie Valley, the couple will reside in Chesapeake, Va.
Events held before the wedding included a tool party Aug. 28 in Chesapeake hosted by Debbie and Bryan Cowling, aunt and uncle of the groom; a floating shower Sept. 4 in Goldsboro at the home of the bride’s mother, and Ruth Kendall, grandmother of the bride, hosted by Shannon Proctor of Raleigh, sister of the bride; a shower at the home of Michelle Nobles in South Mills hosted by Ms. Nobles and Melinda Desler, friends of the bride.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at their home.
