Wooten - Gwathney
Melissa Renee’ Gwathney and Roderick Manwel Wooten of Raleigh exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Dec. 11 at noon at World Overcomers Christian Church in Durham, with Nathaniel Davis Jr. officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Joseph Stanley and Cynthia Wyatt Gwathney of Raleigh and the granddaughter of Alease Bouldin, Benjamin Wyatt and Ella Walker Wyatt of South Boston, Va.
She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a bachelor’s degree in political science and communication studies and North Carolina Central University with a master’s degree in public administration. She is employed as a compliance and contract manager at Builders of Hope Inc.
The groom is the son of Hubert Wooten Jr. and Brenda Swinson Wooten of Goldsboro and the grandson of the late Hubert Wooten, the late Clarence Swinson and Daisy Mae McIntyre Swinson of Goldsboro and Ruth Wooten of Newport News, Va.
He has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He is employed as a human resource specialist with the Department of Justice.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
Danielle Cox was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Tequilla Davis, LaTisha Hayes, Tennille Hopson and Kelli York.
Hubert Wooten Jr., was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Torrous Wooten, Alexander Spears, Jr., Alan Jeffries, Oliver Davis, Joe Walker III and Possia Sanders.
Reagan Davis and Zoe Hayes were flower girls. Isaiah Hayes and Cole Davis were ringbearers.
Hostesses were Erica Dunn, Alexis Davis, Alexis Wyatt, Lakethia Jeffries, Ashley Chrisp, Ashley Mackenzie. Ushers were Joseph Wyatt, Taurus Becton, Kenneth Davis, Benjamin Davis, Carlton Stevens and Don Bernoudy.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at Hilton Durham.
After their wedding trip to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the couple will reside in Raleigh.
Events held before the wedding included bridal showers in Raleigh and Durham hosted by the bride’s mother, Danielle Cox and Tequilla Davis and a bachelor party at Tobacco Road in Raleigh hosted by Alan Jeffries and Oliver Davis.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner at Hargraves in Chapel Hill.
