Umar - Rouse
Lillienne Marie Rouse of Charlotte and Yusif Umar of Charlotte exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony June 6 at 3:30 p.m. at First African Baptist Church, with Dr. Louis S. Leigh Jr. and the Rev. Martyn Anagbouga officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Yvonne Stovall Rouse of Goldsboro and Henry O. Rouse III of Dudley and the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. O.R. Stovall Jr. of Goldsboro and the late Henry O. Rouse Jr. and Gertrude Rouse of Faison.
She is a 1998 graduate of Goldsboro High School and a 2003 graduate of Winston Salem State University with a bachelor of science degree in biology. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She is employed as a laboratory technologist at the American Red Cross National Testing Laboratory in Charlotte.
The groom is the son of Yusif Wahab Umar and Adisa Mohammed of Accra, Ghana, and the grandson of the late Yusif Wahab Umar and Adisa Mohammed and the late Adam Mohammed and Amina Kalafana of Accra.
He is a 1995 graduate of Presby Boys High School in Ghana, a 2001 graduate of the University of Ghana with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and a 2005 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a master of chemistry degree. He attends the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for a master of business administration degree. He is employed as a research chemist with Polypore International in Charlotte.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a white formal strapless gown with a sweetheart neckline. The fitted bodice was embellished with an embroidered flower design adorned with crystal beads and sea beads, sequin and Swarovski crystals with a Basque waistline. The skirt was organza over Italian satin with a semi-cathedral train embellished with an embroidered flower design with beads and Swarovski crystals.
Her headpiece was a rhinestone and pearl tiara and a two-tiered veil accented with crystals.
The bride carried a bouquet of pink and white roses and calla lilies accented with crystal beads with a touch of greenery.
Bridgette Watkins of Winston-Salem was her college roommate’s matron of honor, while Dr. Jonelle Stovall of Durham, cousin of the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Christie Coley of High Point, Valyce Davis of Roanoke Rapids and Lisa Tucker of Charlotte, godsisters of the bride; Christina Hayes of Atlanta, Ga., and Melissa Miller, sorority sisters; and Kimberly Stovall of Greenville, cousin of the bride.
Fareed Adam of New York was his cousin’s best man.
Groomsmen were George Amoateng of Charlotte, Dr. Paul Filson of Virginia Beach, Va., Dr. Daniel Mankatah of Georgetown, Md., and Daniel Prah of Charlotte, college friends of the groom; Harrison Davis of Roanoke Rapids, godbrother of the bride; and Tyron Fields and Jacob Mangum of Charlotte, co-workers of the groom.
Adam Sako of New York, uncle of the groom, was a witness.
Courtney Rouse of Greensboro and Destiny Isler of Goldsboro, friends of the bride, and Ethel Ofei of Charlotte, friend of the couple, were flower girls. Adisa Ivey-Marie Umar, daughter of the couple, was honorary flower girl.
Edward Ofei of Charlotte, friend of the couple, was ringbearer.
Valencia W. Davis, godmother of the bride, directed the wedding.
A program of wedding music was provided by Dr. Benjamin D. Johnson Jr., organist; Lori Williams Grant, pianist; Karis Brewington and Nancy Wooten Coor, vocalists; Majesty York, cellist; Joi York, violinist; and Clifton E. Scott, trumpeter.
Following the ceremony, the bride’s mother hosted a reception at Walnut Creek Country Club. Renita Allen Dawson was coordinator and Regina Harvey was mistress of ceremony. Guest were greeted and served by hostesses Lamesha Griffinn, friend of the bride, Damesha Smith, Tamaya Davis, Andrea Jenkins and Freda Allen, sorority sisters of the bride.
After a wedding trip to Hilton Head Island, S.C., the couple resides in Charlotte.
Events held before the wedding included a miscellaneous shower May 16 in Goldsboro hosted by Christi Coley and Jonelle Stovall and a miscellaneous shower and a bachelorette weekend May 30 and 31 hosted by Christi Coley, Jonelle Stoval and Kim Stovall.
Dr. and Mrs. O.R. Stovall III, uncle and aunt of the bride, hosted a rehearsal dinner.
