COLUMBIA, S.C. — Dr. April Alisa Ashe of Bowie, Md., and Eric Allan Croom of Upper Marlboro, Md., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. at Second Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Latta R. Thomas officiating.

The bride is the daughter of Charles E. Ashe Sr. and April R. Ashe of Columbia and the granddaughter of the late George W. and Sallie L. Ashe of Columbia, Margaret Roache and the late Rev. Joseph C. Roache of Columbia.

She graduated from Spelman College with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and Howard University College of Dentistry with a DDS. She is employed as a dentist at Family Dental Care Center in Oxon Hill, Md.

The groom is the son of Elwood and Shirley W. Croom of Goldsboro and the grandson of Emma McKenzie, the late Albert Croom of Goldsboro and the late Unious and Adell T. Ward of Goldsboro.

He graduated from North Carolina Central University with a criminology degree. He is employed as a bomb technician and canine handler at the Metropolitan Transit Police Department in Washington D.C.

The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

She wore a twill A-line ivory gown with a floral embroidered bodice.

Her headpiece was an ivory waterfall veil.

The bride carried a bouquet of champagne roses and stephanotis with freesia accented with hand-tied French satin ribbon with pearl accents.

Nicole Charisse Ashe, sister-in-law of the bride, and Dr. Gena Bracey Stokes, friend of the bride, were matrons of honor.

Bridesmaids were Marlo David and Margaret Dean, cousins of the bride, and Charlette Woodard, cousin of the groom.

Charles Lamont Woodard and Kenyatta Uzzell were their cousin’s best men.

Groomsmen were Charles E. Ashe Jr., brother of the bride, and Anthony Montgomery and Clifford Swindell, friends of the groom. Cherrail Curry, friend of the groom, was the groomslady.

Ushers were Ellis Dean, cousin of the bride; Stanton Hamlin, Mark Milhouse and David Mann, friends of the groom; Daryl Spivey, friend of the bride; and Roberto Stokes, friend of the couple.

Lauren Ashe, niece of the bride; Mackenzie Dean, cousin of the bride; and Kiersten Stokes, goddaughter of the bride, were flower girls. Nicholas Baham IV, cousin of the bride, was ringbearer.

Levone Tobin Scott directed the wedding. Shannon Jones was event planner.

A program of wedding music was provided by Gregory Boatright, pianist; Angela Dean Baham, cousin of the bride, vocalist; Gregory Boatright, organist; Rose Senn, harpist; Tony Roebuck, trumpeter; and the Resonance String Quartet.

Following the ceremony, the bride’s parents hosted a reception at the Columbia Marriott.

After a wedding trip to Hawaii, the couple reside in Upper Marlboro.

Events held before the wedding included a couple’s shower July 27 at the FOP Lodge in Washington D.C. hosted by Dr. Gena Bracey Stokes, Felycya Waller, friend of the bride, and Cherrail Curry; a bridal shower July 12 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Ashe Jr. in Atlanta, Ga., hosted by Nicole Charisse Ashe, Margaret Dean and Dr. Stephanie Wright, friend of the bride; and a meet-the-bride shower June 21 at the home of the groom’s parents hosted by his parents and aunt, JoAnne Lloyd.

The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner Aug. 8 at the Summit Club in Columbia.
