Daugherty - Davidson
ROME, Ga. — Virginia Lauren Davidson of Rome and Craig Maner Daugherty of Birmingham, Ala., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Hardy Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Scott Alan Jackson and the Rev. Lawton Daugherty, grandfather of the groom, officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gene Grant Davidson of Rome and the granddaughter of Mrs. John E. Bauhofer of Goldsboro, the late Mr. Bauhofer and the late Mr. and Mrs. G. Raymond Davidson.
The groom is the son of Dr. and Mrs. E. Payson Daugherty of Birmingham and the grandson of the Rev. and Mrs. Lawton Daugherty of Elberton, Ga., Mrs. Richard Baker of Winter Park, Fla., and the late Mr. Baker.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore her mother’s candlelight full-length wedding gown of peau de soie with appliqués of peau d’ange re-embroidered with seed pearls.
Her headpiece was a cathedral-length veil bordered with peau d’ange lace, worn by her mother and her twin sister. She also wore a pearl necklace and earrings given to her by her parents.
The bride carried a clutch bouquet of white dendrobium orchids, vendala roses and white freesia interspersed with ming and springeri accented with lily grass.
Catherine Collins Bland of Boston, Mass., was her twin sister’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Brooke Sleeper of San Diego, Calif., and Laura Daugherty of Birmingham, sisters of the groom.
Dr. Payson Daugherty was his son’s best man.
Groomsmen were Benjamin Sleeper of San Diego, brother-in-law of the groom; Nicholas Bland of Boston, brother-in-law of the bride; and Hans Bauhofer Davidson of Tallahassee, Fla., brother of the bride.
Associate Pastor Jeff Jack of Birmingham was Scripture reader.
Anneliese Grace Hibbs and Garlyn Catherine Hibbs of Sparta, N.J., cousins of the bride, distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Neil Allen Sanders, pianist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at The Plantation of Horseleg. Dr. and Mrs. Alan Lee Bowen of Rome greeted guests. A four-tiered wedding cake iced in white butter cream with ivory swirls and hand-dipped white chocolate strawberries was served.
After a wedding trip, the couple reside in Leesville, La.
Events held before the wedding included a low country boil shower in Dunwoody, Ga., hosted by the Rev. Lawton and Mrs. Daugherty and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Bullard; a barn party in Birmingham hosted by Barbara Slimick; a cookout miscellaneous shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lobik in Rome; a bridesmaids’ luncheon and lingerie shower at the home of the bride hosted by her aunts and cousins; and a Sunday brunch at the home of the bride’s parents hosted by Susan Hortman.
The groom’s parents hosted a rehearsal dinner May 31 at Magretta Hall.
