Williams - Darden
Lonice Darden and Joseph Williams Jr. of Norfolk, Va., exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony April 28 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Disciples Church of Christ, with Dr. David N. Atkinson officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Margie Lorraine Darden and the late Albert Darden of Faison and the granddaughter of the late Richard and Martha Lewis Darden and Dr. James L. and Maude Williams of Faison.
She is a graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College with two undergraduate degrees and attends Central Michigan University. She is employed as a program director assistant with Nova Behavioral Healthcare Inc. of Kinston.
The groom is the son of Joseph Williams Sr. and Della Corey Williams of Jamesville and the grandson of the late Alfred and Lela Williams of Washington and the late Dorsey and Maggie Corey of Jamesville.
He graduated from Chowan College with an associate degree in pre-law and East Carolina University with a communication degree. He is serving in the Navy as a first class store keeper.
The bride was escorted by her uncle, Willie Richard Darden, and given in marriage by her mother.
She wore a gold Italian satin A-line gown. The bodice had an off-the-shoulder neckline embellished with silver embroidery, Swarovski crystals, glass beads and bugle beads. The waistline was accented by boxed pleats in the back and flowed into a tiffany train with matching embroidery and beading encircling the hemline.
The bride carried a bouquet of red roses and white calla lilies tied with crimson ribbon.
Marlene D. Faison was her sister’s matron of honor, while Tracey Flow, friend of the bride, was maid of honor.
Bridesmaids were Angela Ward, sister of the bride; Marquita Faison, Angelica Ward and Ileisha Ward, nieces of the bride; and Tonya Ham, friend of the bride.
Johnnie Williams and Fredrick Corey were their cousin’s best men.
Groomsmen were Alton M. Glaspie, Michael Darden, Otis Darden, Dennis Darden, Anthony Darden and Kelvin Darden, cousins of the bride; Raymond Ward and Eric Faison, brothers-in-law of the bride; and Donald Atkinson Jr., friend of the bride.
Honorary bridesmaids were Regetta Darden, Rennetta Glaspie and Tonia Hawkins, cousins of the bride.
Aniya Parker, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. Daniel Lee Fredrick, godson of the bride, was ringbearer.
Bernestine Royal and Cheryl Dobson directed the wedding. Presiding at the register were Camela and Ernestine Vega. Kierstine McAtee distributed programs.
Special helper was Nicole Fredrick, cousin of the bride.
A program of wedding music was provided by Darryl Stevens, pianist; Annointed Treasures, vocalists; Jimmy Fredrick, guitarist; and Derrick Atkinson, percussionist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. Fontaine Swinson, cousin of the bride, was mistress of ceremony. Ervin and Barbara Best attended the gift table.
After a wedding trip to St. Maarten and St. Thomas, the couple reside in Norfolk.
Events held before the wedding included a lingerie shower April 21 at the home of Shirley Reddick and a bridal shower Feb. 10 at the home of George and Cheryl Dobson hosted by Goshen gospel choir and Family Praises choir.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner April 27 in the church dining hall.
