Sumrell - Shivar
Joy Sauls Shivar of Snow Hill and Samuel William Sumrell Jr. of Farmville exchanged vows Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Lane Tree Country Club, with the Rev. McGee Creech officiating.
The bride is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sauls of LaGrange.
The groom is the son of S.W. Sumrell Sr. and Patricia J. Sumrell of Farmville and the grandson of Lola W. Joyner and the late Mark W. Joyner of Farmville and Velma H. Sumrell and the late Harold E. Sumrell of Walstonburg.
The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her son, Dustin G. Shivar of Snow Hill.
She wore a chapel-length strapless gown of white satin with an embroidered bodice of black roses adorned with pearls and crystal sequins.
Her headpiece was a white waist-length veil outlined in crystals attached to a black and white crystal tiara.
The bride carried a clutch bouquet of white mixed flowers and ivy accented with pearls and black netting.
Sharon B. Dentzer of Goldsboro was her friend’s matron of honor.
J. Mack Smith Jr. of Farmville was his friend’s best man.
Ushers were Kenneth R. Sauls of LaGrange, brother of the bride; W. Craig Sauls of LaGrange, nephew of the bride; and Samuel W. Sumrell III and Matthew W. Sumrell of Raleigh, sons of the groom.
Nick, the couple’s pet Chihuahua, was an honorary usher in a tuxedo, tails and top hat.
Pam Daniels of Goldsboro directed the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lee Smith of Goldsboro presided at the register and distributed programs.
A program of wedding music was provided by Rick Thornton.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held. Teresa Crisp of Goldsboro was director.
After a wedding trip in the USA and Canada, the couple reside in Snow Hill.
Events held before the wedding included a birthday-bridal luncheon Oct. 24 at Texas Steakhouse hosted by Louise Ginn and a pig picking Oct. 7 at the party house of Jacob and Angie Turnage in Snow Hill, hosted by family and friends of the bride.
The groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner Oct. 27 at Lane Tree Country Club.
