Updegraff - Cassell
BAR HARBOR, Maine — Megan Allene Cassell of Bar Harbor and Michael Stephen Updegraff of Seal Harbor, Maine, exchanged vows in a double-ring ceremony Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church, with Scott Records and Charles Ives officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. Allen M. Cassell and Linda J. Cassell of Mount Olive and the granddaughter of the late Harrison S. Cassell Jr., Sarah M. Cassell and George H. and Allene S. Jorgensen of Wilmington.
She is a 1997 graduate of Southern Wayne High School and a 2001 graduate of Meredith College with a Bachelors of Science degree with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. She is employed as a scientific curator assistant at Jackson Lab.
The groom is the son of Carol A. Updegraff of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Stephen Updegraff and the grandson of Wayne and Ruth Updegraff of New Cumberland, Pa., Marjorie F. Justh of Mechanicsburg and the late Nicholas Justh.
He attended Harrisburg Area Community College and the University of Maine. He is a member of the planning and working team at Colegio Moriah School in the Dominican Republic. He is employed as a carpenter and finisher at Classic Boat Shop.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.
She wore a white strapless one-piece corset gown with lace over delustered satin embellished with bugle beads, sequins and pearls and a sweep train.
Her elbow-length single-tiered veil was edged in pearls.
The bride carried white and champagne roses, dendrobium orchids, seeded eucalyptus and green hydrangea.
Rachel Embler of Smithfield served as her friend’s matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Sarah Barnhart of Garner, friend of the bride; Amanda Munro of Bar Harbor, friend of the couple; and Sarah Updegraff of Mechanicsburg, sister of the groom.
Josh Updegraff of Orono, Maine, was his brother’s best man.
Groomsmen were James Flachsbart of Northport, Maine, and Sam Hyler of Islesford, Maine, friends of the groom, and Adrian Munro of Bar Harbor, friend of the couple.
Chelsea Cassell of Sacramento, Calif., niece of the bride, was flower girl. Ethan Cassell of Sacramento, nephew of the bride, was ringbearer.
Presiding at the register was Karen McGarr of Bar Harbor. Jade Southard of Rockland, Maine, distributed programs.
Readers were Sally Ives of Bar Harbor and Paul Munro of Owl’s Head, Maine, friends of the couple.
A program of wedding music was provided by Christy Spurling of Islesford, pianist, and Peggy Dunbar of Bernard, Maine, organist.
Following the ceremony, a buffet dinner reception was held at Atlantic Oakes in Bar Harbor.
After a wedding trip to Costa Rica, the couple reside in Seal Harbor.
Events held before the wedding included a bridal shower at First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor hosted by the friends of the couple and congregation and an engagement party hosted by Jeff and Becky Mercer of Clayton, friends of the bride.
A Maine luau rehearsal dinner was held in Trenton, Maine.
