Mrs. Nipper

Alison Gay Lewis and Robert Chestley Nipper were united in marriage Saturday, May 20, at 3 p.m.

The Rev. Morton Eugene Carpenter officiated at the double-ring ceremony at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Anderson Lewis of Goldsboro. She is the granddaughter of James Talbot Jeffreys of Goldsboro, the late Lois Taylor Jeffreys and the late Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Franklin Lewis.

Parents of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Pierce Mintz and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Marvin Nipper of Wilmington. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. R. Bruce White Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Marvin Nipper.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory strapless gown accented with Alencon lace, crystals and seed pearls.

For her headpiece, she chose her mother’s chapel-length mantilla of imported silk illusion bordered with Venise lace appliqués.

Carolyn Jeffreys Lewis and Jennifer Anderson Lewis, sisters of the bride, were maids of honor. Bridesmaids were Melissa Leigh Bamonte of Charlotte, Nancy Hayes Ferguson, Sarah Mansfield Watson and Mildred Louise Wooten of Raleigh.

Richard Marvin Nipper was his son’s best man. Groomsmen were William Russell Nipper, brother of the groom, Charles Edward Fare of Raleigh, Waylon Dale Hinson of Charlotte, David Charles Joyner Jr. of Kill Devil Hills, Andrew Jason Mitwol of Atlanta, Ga., and Charles Justin Whitley of Charleston, S.C.

Anne Graysen Jeffreys and Jane Alexander Jeffreys, cousins of the bride, were flower girls.

Ellen Gay Elmore was the crucifer. Thomas Edgar Elmore IV was the acolyte.

Readers were Elizabeth Taylor Jeffreys, cousin of the bride, and David Foy McGowan III, friend of the couple.

Sandra Leigh Jenkins and Ashley Christen Lee distributed programs.

A program of wedding music was provided by William Bryant Hayes, organist, and Joseph Lawrence Brinson, trumpeter.

After a wedding trip, the couple will reside in Wilmington.

The bride is a graduate of East Carolina University and Cape Fear Community College. She was presented at the 1997 Debutante Ball. She is employed with Genesis Rehabilitation Services.

The groom graduated from East Carolina University with a bachelor of science degree in construction management. He is employed with Lee F. Cowper Inc.

Following the ceremony, a reception was held at Walnut Creek Country Club.

On May 19, the groom’s parents held a rehearsal dinner.
