WILLIAM HARRELL EVERETT JR.

William Harrell Everett Jr., 83, Goldsboro, N.C., passed away peacefully Aug.t 16, 2018, in Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was born Christmas Day in 1934 in Williamston, N.C.. to William Harrell and Serena Peacock Everett.
He graduated from Williamston High School, and received undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina, and was an avid University of North Carolina sports fan.
He served in the United States Army between undergraduate and law school.
Harrell began practicing law in 1962 in Rocky Mount, N.C., and moved to Goldsboro in 1964, where he practiced law until 2015, including serving as city attorney of Goldsboro for 35 years.
Harrell was preceded in death by his parents, William Harrell and Serena Peacock Everett.
He is survived by his beloved family, his wife, Lila; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lucy and Frank Edmondson of Edenton, N.C., and Ann and Adlai Wood of Wilmington, N.C.; his grandchildren, Adlai, Xavier and Lila Frances; his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Larry Chesson of Williamston, N.C.; his brother and sister-in-law, Jim Everett and Carolyn Roberts of Chevy Chase, Md.; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe and Ann Frierson of Athens, Ga., and David and Nancy Hunter of Rome, Ga.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Harrell served his community and church in many ways, including senior warden and treasurer of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, president of the Goldsboro Chamber of Commerce, president and Paul Harris Scholar of Rotary, member of the Goldsboro City Schools Board of Education for eight years, chairman of the Wayne Mental Health Board, president of the local Wachovia Bank board and member of the North Carolina Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) committee.
A memorial service with interment will be held Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 200 N. James St., Goldsboro.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
