KAREN LYNN LUDLUM
May 22, 1956-Feb. 26, 2018
Karen "Kay" Lynn Ludlum passed away suddenly Monday at UNC Wayne.
She was born in Columbus County to Geraldine G. Moore and the late Thelton Ludlum.
A service to celebrate Kay's life will be held Friday, March 2, 2018, at 11 a.m. in Wayne Memorial Park, with Dr. Mike Collier officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
She retired from Georgia Pacific in December with 38 years of service.
Kay was an avid sports fan and an outstanding athlete. Her basketball skill during her time at Rosewood High School was so great, they retired her jersey, number 14, at her graduation in 1974.
She was a diehard Carolina fan, and never missed a televised game if she could help it.
Her love for the beach was well known by all who knew her, and she could often be found with a fishing pole in her hand.
Over the years, Kay and Glenda built numerous friendships. Those friendships became family.
Kay's gift of helping others was well known. She never hesitated to lend a hand to any who needed it.
In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her stepfather, Kenneth E. Moore, her sister, Sandy V. Williams and Frank Newcomb.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her best friend, Glenda Newcomb; brother, Greg Ludlum (Zondrea); and sisters, Glenda King (Earl), Donna Paschall (Sam), Susan Scott and Beth Mays.
She is also survived by Milford Newcomb (Gaynell), Bill Newcomb (Bonnie), Phyllis Hargrove and Debbie Newcomb, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, and her canine buddy, Ramsey.
The family would like to express its appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Dr. James Atkins and his staff during Kay's battle with cancer.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to Cures for the Colors, SMOC, 203 Cox Blvd., Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
