BETTY T. GRANTHAM

Betty Thompson Grantham, 83, Smith's Chapel community west of Mount Olive, received her promotion to heaven Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 6, 2018, while at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She leaves behind her two sons, Eugene Grantham and wife, Marie, of Mount Olive and Gary Grantham of Mount Olive and his special friend, Gerrie Shafer, and her family of the Mar-Mac area; beloved grandchildren, Preston Grantham and wife, Paige, and Cole, Carly and Claire Grantham; stepgrandchildren, Michael "Buddy" Wells and wife, Kim, and Eugene Wells; four stepgreat-grandchildren; longtime dear friends, Lillie Jones, Hilda Greene and Linda Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
She was welcomed into eternal rest by her husband, Carlton E. Grantham; her parents, Joseph Preston Thompson and Viola Chestnutt Thompson; a brother, Chester Thompson; and sisters, Helen T. Stevens and Colene Thompson.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Friday, Feb. 9, beginning at noon, with funeral services to follow at 1 p.m. Burial will then be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Friends and relatives are also being received at the Gary Grantham residence.
It is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses.
Mrs. Grantham was a longtime member of Smith's Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was quite active for as long as her health permitted.
While she had been employed in her younger years in area sewing rooms, she was content at being a homemaker and farm wife.
She was a wonderful cook, and was responsible for baking and preparing many wedding cakes for area brides in earlier years.
