EVAN R. KEEL

Evan Richard Keel, 77, passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.
Evan was born in Wayne County, N.C., Nov. 22, 1940, to the late Paul Keel and Eleanor Williams Keel.
He was a graduate of New Hope High School, and was a teacher with the Wayne County Public School System for 33 years.
Evan was a member and a board member of Belfast Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
He also was member of Goldsboro Rifles, which is a division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and a lifetime member of the NRA.
He was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School for 26 years.
He was known for his love of photography, cars, especially Ford Mustangs, and history.
Evan loved his family, and his family was foremost to him. He will be greatly missed especially by his wife, son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren and his extended Keel and Gardner families.
A service to celebrate Evan's life will be held Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sandy Schaller and the Rev. Liz Hounshell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Evan is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beverly Gardner Keel; son, Bryant Keel and wife, Kim, of Pikeville; and his grandchildren, Rylee Keel, Mason Keel and Bella Keel.
He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Keel of Goldsboro; brother, Stanley Keel and wife, Janice, of Danville, Va.; and sister-in-law, Lynda Keel of Goldsboro.
In addition to his parents, Evan was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Kenneth Keel.
