Edward Louis Kornegay, 68, died Tuesday at Wayne UNC Health Care.
Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late John Louis Kornegay and Hilda Cox Kornegay.
Ed was a member of Providence United Methodist Church, where he served on various committees.
He retired after 23 years of service from the United States Navy Civil Engineer Corps with the rank of captain.
He was a registered civil engineer in the states of North Carolina and Florida.
Upon his retirement from the United States Navy, Ed worked for several years as the in-house engineer with Jackson Builders until opening his own home office.
A service to celebrate Ed's life will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Jackson and the Rev. Jim Huskins officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
The family will greet friends Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Providence Church fellowship hall and at other times, at the home.
Ed is survived by his wife, Margaret W. Kornegay; his sisters, Frances K. and Glenn Brogden of Mount Olive and Nancy K. and Mike Burton of Taylors, S.C.; several nieces and nephews; his special golfing buddies, Bob Guyse and Rudy Peedin; along with his special feline friend, Molly.
