DANIEL D. KESTER

Daniel Douglas Kester, 79, passed away Saturday at UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, he was the son of the late Donald Ruble Kester and the late Leah Bonita Fullen Kester. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having retired after 20 years of service and was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church.
Dan was also a member of the Berkeley Civitans, The Wayne County Historical Society, The Order of the Arrow and Three Eagles Golf Course. Among his many hobbies included his businesses, Dan's Rock Shop, Mooseberry Mansion, cheapjunk.com and a professional wrestling promoter. His many talents included jewelry making, woodworking, scrimshaw, painting, ceramics and a collector of everything, including used golf balls. He was also known as the curator of Johnny Appleseed.
Services to remember Dan's life will be held in January.
Dan is survived by his wife, Dr. Diane D. Kester; sons, Donn Kester and wife, Bonnie, Dan Kester and wife, Mary Anne and David Kester; daughters, Dawn Kester and Deneen Marshall and husband, Randy; sisters, Phyllis Townsend and Tami Massaro; grandchildren, Donnie, Kate, Trey, Will, Jonathon, Erica and David; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kaelyn, Zoey, Ella and Nora.
Dan requested that no flowers be sent and that memorial gifts may be directed to the New Hope United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 200 E. New Hope Road, Goldsboro, N.C. 27534.
