Nerius Carr Holmes Jr., 86, LaGrange, peacefully passed away Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23, 2017.
N.C. was born Sept. 18, 1931, to the late Nerius Carr Holmes and Naomi Johnson Holmes.
N.C. proudly served his country in the United States Army.
A lifelong farmer, N.C. loved the land and the farming life.
Quiet, easy going and soft spoken, N.C. found great pleasure in the simple things of life.
A man of great faith, N.C. worshiped his Lord at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.
Fair, honest and generous, N.C. was full of love and compassion for his fellow man.
In his quiet time, N.C. enjoyed the challenge of a good crossword puzzle.
A service to celebrate and honor N.C.'s life will be held Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at 6 p.m. from Rouse Funeral Home. Burial will be Monday at 2 p.m. from Fairview Cemetery.
N.C. is survived by his wife of 14 years, Virginia Barwick Holmes; four sisters, Margaret Haddock and husband, Cleveland, Elaine Tyndall, Fay Letchworth and Brenda Strickland and husband, George; four brothers, Gerald Holmes and wife, Nell, Royce Holmes and wife, Elsie, Dean Johnson and wife, Edna, and Bryce Johnson and wife, Nelda; and a special friend, whom N.C. thought of as a son, Johnny Williams.
In addition to his parents, N.C. was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Barwick Holmes, and two sisters, Merle Foss and Joyce Edwards.
The family will receive friends Sunday following the service and at other times, the family will be at the home.
