Irene Cox was born to the late Jacob Lewis and Edith Virginia Coley Lewis on Nov. 17, 1924, in Pikeville, N.C.
Mrs. Irene Cox was preceded in death by her husband, James Cox Sr.; and son, James Cox Jr.
She is survived by her two daughters, Jacqueline Lewis Greer (Earl), and Shirley Marshall (David); a sister, Eva Lewis; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and caregivers.
A public viewing will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at McIntyre Funeral Home, 1215 Royall Ave., Goldsboro, N.C., from noon to 1 pm.
Immediately following the viewing, the funeral service will begin at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow at Christopher Coley Cemetery, 2669 Pikeville-Princeton Road, Pikeville, N.C.
